In Early Years we love using resources in all our maths lessons. Here you can see us using numicon and multilink. Our maths takes place both inside and outside the classroom and we love spotting patterns in the world around us.

In Year 1, we love using number lines. We use these in many areas of our maths learning. We also love transferring our learning outside and practising drawing our own number lines using chalks. Here you can see us marking the mid-point on our number line to help solve problems more easily. You can also see us using a variety of practical resources such as multilink and numicon to solve problems.

In Year 2 we love using concrete resources to help us learn new concepts. Using the concrete, pictorial, abstract approach in maths is an engaging way for us to master mathematical concepts. Here, for example, the children are using tens and ones dienes to practice adding two two-digit numbers with exchanging.

In Year 3 we use resources to help us with all new areas of learning in maths. One of those areas is measure. Here you can see we use lots of different things to measure, for example our hands and feet. It helps us understand ideas like longest and shortest.

One of the big focuses in Year 4 is times tables in preparation for the national Times Table screening at the end of the year. As well as singing songs and going on Times Table Rockstars, we also use resources such as Numicon and multilink to represent these in different ways. We also play games to help our recall like the beach ball game shown here.

Amongst the many areas we look at in Year 5, we have a huge focus on fractions. When we explore new ideas, we use concrete resources such as two-sided counters and Dienes to help us solve problems and make connections and links.

Even though we have been learning maths for many years in Year 6, we still use concrete resources to learn new concepts. Here you can see us using concrete resources to show how fractions get smaller when you multiply them to each other as well as looking at relationships between numbers when we introduced ratio.
